Jai Ho!For a Progressive Government

The largest democracy in the world has a new government in place, albeit one that seems set to be self propelled through the next five years

The exit polls had predicted a close game between the NDA and the UPA. The NDTV exit poll however seemed to suggest a slightly wider majority for the UPA. As one who has been groomed to support the Congress through life, I chose to accept this verdict and through the next day, parked myself in front of, watching the results unfold.

And what a win it was…from 216 to 242 to 256 to 261…a clear mandate handed over to an incumbent government.

Personally, as a minority and bred in the city, I could never think of voting for the BJP. Over the years their treatment of hindutva has only caused fear and made me unsure of my right to leading the life of an Indian national . Modi’s development at the cost of the riots is no development at all. The incidents in Orissa,Bangalore, Mangalore, Varun’s hate speech all add up to one logical conclusion: They dont deserve to be in power

L.K Advani’s face was splashed all over the media. Obama type campaigns were run all across the internet to the point they started interfering. People wanted answers not propaganda, people wanted conversations not faces staring out of screens through Google adwords. The Twitter and blogging campaigns were full of propaganda ” We did this and that and…”As it is, with only 5% of the population online and with a significant proportion of the lot not voting, the internet campaign did not make sense in the first place.

L.K Advani was projected to be the face of change. A lifetime of his politics couldnt change the country and he expects to do it now. I would much rather go with the younger faces of the UPA who define change as giving empowerment and employment to the poor, as changing the very way in which the country is governed. I would much rather go with a prime minister who understands the health of the country and has the experience of nursing it back to health. I would much rather go with a prime minister who performs rather than challenge others to mindless debates!!

With the likes of SP, RJD and the BSP safely out of the picture its “Jai ho” for positive change and for a better India

The recent episode of a nun being raped and the death of a swami being attributed to the Christians deeply anguishes me. A Christian myself, the so called ‘sporadic’ incidents of violence showcases how we as a nation are becoming intolerant of each other.

I will not comment on whether conversions happen by force or allurement because I dont know. What, I do know however, is that in Christianity, the word conversion itself does not signify any allurement or force. What I am taught in whichever church I go to is look towards Christ and follow his way of living. Christ’s way of living knew only love and it is his love and his life that became an example to others to follow him. This is the reason why christianity is all about giving. As such a conversion, if happening, is because someone saw another leading a life of example and was thus motivated to follow the same.

Today, people fight in the name of religion. The irony, however is that no religion ever said to kill or rape or molest your fellow brethren to protect your religion. The self professed keepers of the faith, the Bajrang Dal and the VHP , seem to be doing just that. The SIMI and the Indian Mujahideen seem to be doing just that.

Violence in the name of religion and region seems to be spreading unabated and the law and order system of the nation seems to be just watching!!. People have lost consciences and raping or killing seems to be taken as a divine karma.

Politics and religion also seem to go hand in hand today. I vote for the BJP because they are pro hindutva or I vote for the Congress because they’re not!! Sadly this is what is defining India today. Of course, in the first place itself, I am sure, it is these nationalist parties only who seed the issue. Votes and a comfortable chair to view the parade is all that they’re interested in and they’ll go to any extent to achieve it!!

Orissa seems to be just one of the breeding grounds for political activism. I am sure that we’ll see these rapists and killers playing an active role in national politics tomorrow!! Christians are easy targets because their modes of reacting are also usually non violent.

I wonder when these fools will think of the nation. They fail to realize how unstable and vulnerable we make ourselves from the inside . Today, India’s greatest enemies are these deranged, blood thirsty fools and not Pakistan or China!!

Born Free

Remember this 1966 movie based on a book written by Joy Adamson on herself, her forest game husband and the adorable Elsa: A lioness. Yes you read it right: A lioness who was adopted as a cub by the couple. The story sees through Elsa’s growing up and finally her release into the forests of Kenya and how she copes up.

There is another similar story about a Lion called “Christian”. The story goes as follows:

“In 1969, two Australians living in London purchased a 35-pound lion cub from the exotic animal division of Harrod’s department store. For a full year, John Rendall and Anthony Bourke raised the cub as their pet, permitting him to lounge freely in the furniture shop they co-owned and even join them for an occasional meal at a local restaurant. In 1972, after the lion had grown too large to properly be cared for, he was taken to Kenya and–rather remarkably–reintroduced to the wild. Two years later, Rendall and Bourke paid a visit to Kenya to see their old friend. They were told the lion would never remember them.”

This is what happened next:

And you thought Animals operated only on instincts!!!

News on the Loose!!!

The media business is driven by ad revenues. So much so that each piece of news is thoroughly researched and analysed to ensure that only breaking news is provided to the eagerly awaiting masses. Gossip is wide spread and not limited to just Bollywood and Hollywood. The right to freedom of expression has ensured that the media expresses whatever cometh out from the mouths of Politicians, dogs and birds. The flora of the nation has unfortunately been a tough nut to crack although the fourth estate is desperately looking for cues to understand and express breaking news on what one rubber tree had to say to the coconut tree.
